My Rabbit Story

Image
Animal Antics #6, January 1947.  Detective Comics.     Oh, and urine or lemon juice works just fine for secret writing.  In 1951, the company's top-of-the-line "Chemcraft Master Laboratory" set retailed for $27.50 (equivalent to $287 in 2021) and contained, among other things, radioactive uranium ore.  I had one of these c. 1966, unfortunately my pet rabbit Billy set fire to a sink and blew a large hole through the garage wall after mixing powdered sugar and aluminum dust with ammonium nitrate next to a lit alcohol lamp.  Billy vanished before dad showed up and I believe that everyone thinks I lied about that, I lied all the time but that particular explosion and subsequent house fire was my bunny's fault, it really was.  I got spanked and sent to bed without dinner and somewhere we still have a letter from the Marine Corps stating it was very patriotic of my dad to volunteer my services for defusing mines around Đồng Nai Province but...

The Puppettes

Image
I just found this great artist that does a vintage/retro style of art! Her name is Savannah Alexandra and she is the creator of the Puppettes,a 1940's-50's era group of cannine dancers (the name makes you think of New York's famous dancers, the Rockettes.) She says the idea for these gals came from the numerous art of cat girls. She wondered "why are there no dog girls?" Each cannine cutie is based on a different breed of dog. You may also notice each girl has a different body shape based on these breeds. Also notice the influence of the 40's-50's pin-up girl style of art.I hope she doesn't mind my sharing of this fantastic art! Ready for a Christmas show! True vintage glamour!!

Request

Image
During my brief time on Facebook, a guy asked me to draw him a rabbit, silver and gold, two earrings, and with a bow killing bandits.  Uh, OK, and I delivered.  Then he did not even favorite the drawing.  I never spoke to him again and quit that site right after that.  This is that picture. And ignore the ridiculous tail.  I fell in love with the sweep of the lines, now I know why Batman wears a cape.  It's not for him, but the artists. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81RiusHIsSL._AC_SY741_.jpg   See what I mean?  David Finch, artist.

The Milky Way

Image
Three kittens, denied milk as punishment for losing their mittens after playing out in the snow, sail up into the Milky Way in a basket lifted by three balloons.  Once in the Milky Way, they find it a land of natural milk springs and gushers. The kittens proceed to happily gorge themselves on milk, until they get into trouble and risk falling back down to Earth. However, it is then revealed that the whole event was just a dream. Their mother then comes in to their bedroom to invite them down for supper. The kittens rush excitedly into the kitchen, only to be sickened to see that their supper is milk.  https://youtu.be/gHg9BTS6m1k   This won the Academy Award for 1940, the first non Disney cartoon to do so.  MGM. https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/2018/03/garth-williams-mortal-believe-it-or-not.html    I said M - G - M.     Goddamn rabbit.

The "It" Equine: Sierra!

Image
Hi Guys ! Imagine My Little Pony meeting up with Barbie for some fashion advice and you've got a pretty good idea of what I have for you today !  This is Sierra , one of the four Struts horses, who were introduced by Playmates Toys in 2008 .   Everything you might want to know about Sierra, or " Sia " as her friends call her, is right here on the back of the package .  Naturally, I've got some questions .  How does a horse get into a kayak ?  How do horses eat pizza ?  I'm all about suspension of disbelief , but some things I just can't let go !  Oh well, it's just a toy , right?  And you sure don't want to put limits on a kid's imagination ! Wait , how does a horse apply lipstick , rouge , and eye shadow ?  Never mind, let's move on ! Here's some of Sierra's friends .  You can tell by their names where they come from .  Hey, if you have hooves , why do you need shoes ?  How do you put those things ...

Satchel, the Ball-Playing Alligator

Image
Animal Crackers 31, July 1950   Hi Guys! I can tell you with a fair amount of confidence that there aren't a lot of anthro alligators out there.  And there's even fewer of 'em that play baseball for a living.  But that's just what I've got for you, thanks to Fox Feature Syndicate's Animal Crackers comics!   Animal Crackers is a pretty obscure title and like most Fox funny-animal productions, it's not super memorable either for the art or for the stories .  I'm afraid that's the case with today's fare , except that there's something kinda weird about this particular ball-playing alligator. See, his name is " Satchel ," which is strange-enough by itself .  But as it turns out, "Satchel" is a reference to Satchel Paige , an African-American baseball pitcher who became one of the first sports stars to cross race barriers and make a name for himself in the big leagues !  In 1948, he left the Negro Leagues and joi...
