The sculpture sits in front of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics at the Russian Academy of Sciences and was completed in 2013. Called the Monument to the Laboratory Mouse , it was designed to honor the 55th anniversary of the founding of the institute. Forged from bronze, it took a year to complete.   Susan Wheeler. Possibly Pete Hawley. Eddie Selzer was the head of the Warner Brothers animation department from 1944 to 1958.  He was known for his unfailing ability to be dead wrong about what was funny, once announcing that bullfighting was not funny and Warner's wouldn't make any bullfighting cartoons.  That's what gave us 1953's Bully For Bugs, one of the very best of Warner's cartoons.  Chuck Jones and Mike Maltese figured that if Eddie said it then it was a sure bet that what he disapproved of was box office gold.  He also declared there was nothing funny about a skunk who spoke French, the short For Scent-imental Reasons won that year's Academy Award.  And...he opposed pairing Tweetie Bird with Sylvester the cat, the very first cartoon with them, Tweetie Pie, won Warner's it's first Academy Award for animation.  The card pictured above was sent to Carl Stalling. https://youtu.be/18A5ATg8_Ok   Happy New Year, Russian.  (S Novym Godom) So Merry C

Brer Rabbit Molasses, c. 1948   Hi Guys ! You've probably heard of Brer Rabbit :  he's the beloved folk character from the Old South who was immortalized in the Uncle Remus tales of Joel Chandler Harris !   Brer Rabbit is a clever trickster who always manages to outwit the predators who want to eat him !  He's constantly turning the tables on bigger and more ferocious characters, and for that reason, kids love him !   That's where Brer Rabbit Molasses comes in!  See, molasses is traditionally used in all kinds of dessert food , especially in the South !  Kids dig dessert; heck, who doesn't ?!  So it's only natural that Brer Rabbit would give his name to the stuff.     Brer Rabbit's Modern Recipes for Modern Living , c. 1930s   Today, molasses isn't as popular as it used to be.  I'm guessing that as refined sugar became cheaper and more widely available in the 1920s and 1930s , old-school molasses began to take a back seat .  It'
