Today was cloudy.  I got out of bed late, I had trouble sleeping last night as usual.  My cats were complaining about their late breakfast so I wrapped a sheet around me and went to get them their food.  After putting the portions in bowls I set it before each of them and got out of their way.  Ever since my boy cat Beau died I have more leisure in the morning to feed the kitties, that big bundle of love would intertwine my feet and figure 8 around them so that I could barely walk.  As I have very large feet this would cause me to stumble.  He was so affectionate that I would lock him out of the kitchen while I made coffee, I use a French press so I have to boil water.  This morning the blood had crusted around my nose where the big guy punched me at the guitar show yesterday, it hurt like hell and I was going to have to bleach my sheets when I washed today.  As I poured my first cup of coffee Meemers left her food in a huff, she doe...

A Friend In Need

Image
Billy Ukalerk has never killed anything before, and now he is helping the tribe's good friend John Nanuq to fish.  John is giving instructions to the increasingly nauseated rabbit on ensuring the catch does not escape back into the water.  All the rest of the Ukalerk tribe is in the summer country for the winter, and Billy will have to live on dried berries and mushrooms until the big bear is ready to fend for himself again.  Billy has never tried fresh fish fried in blubber before.  The bear clan, however, has certainly tried rabbit.  There are many who disapprove of the new alliance, and fervently want Billy to stay for awhile, at least until they come visit.  These bears wish that John would come live with them again, and to give up his strange new friends. This, thought the bunny, is going to require some finesse.   These berries taste funny.

The Two Sisters.  If a talking tree ain't anthropomorphic, then what is? The Wind In The Willows, Mole, Ratty, and Toad The Wind In The Willows, Toad Escapes Prison Aesop's Fables, The Tortoise and the Hare English Fairy Tales, Goldilocks and the Three Bears By Day She Made Herself Into A Cat.     Jorinde and Joringel, Hansel and Gretel and Other Tales    The Wind In The Willows, Mole and the Water Rat have a picnic.    The Three Bears A Midsummer Nights Dream, Nick Bottom.  "Hold or cut bowstrings"! The Lion complained most sadly that a beast with such claws, teeth, and strength as he possessed, should yet be moved to a state of abject terror at the crowing of a Cock.  “Can life be worth having ,” said he, “when so vile a creature has the power to rob it of its charms?” Just then, a huge Elephant came along, flapping his ears quickly to and fro, with an air of great concern. “What troubles you so?” said the Lion to the Eleph...

Turnabout Is Fair Play

A Whale and Three Fish Sitting Down to a Formal Dinner of Russian Sailors Kobayashi Kiyochika, 1904 This is probably a political cartoon referring to the Russo-Japanese war, 1904 - 1005.  Still, anthro is anthro.  Yes: The satirical writer Honekawa Dojin (pseudonym of Nishimori Takeki, 1862–1913) supplied each illustration with an accompanying humorous description. The series mocked the Russians for their perceived military weakness, conceit, and cowardice. Here the sea bream invites guests to a meal of Russians. It apologizes that they taste bad and lack guts, despite the superior impression they give off. The guests are surprised how easy it is to swallow them whole. Puns on words related to the sea, fish, and death occur throughout the text.

Here two of my fave artists come together.  This is by my friend KosmoKoyote on Deviant Art.  I will quote his description - "A conceptual sketch that I did based on a sculpture that was created by  Jean Baptiste Carpeaux.  The young fox holds a conch shell to his ear to hear the ocean". As it happens I think Carpeaux one of the great treasures of the art world.  He did several versions of this. The first version was of a boy. In this incarnation a girl is holding the conch on top of her head.  Ah, les dames peuvent être très étranges, non? Vive la différence! I really like Kosmo's work and find it refreshing to see someone so aware of great art.  He loves the out of doors to the point of going off and camping in deserts and ghost towns.  I complain endlessly about civilization but that doesn't mean I can live without it.  (just in case any reader feared that there would be no mention of me in this post).
