Red's Tales: The Cavern Pt 4

“Calm yourself,” the Selurian said, but Red kept the dagger at his throat. “You? You’re the one I’ve spied following me. You have a lot of explaining to do and you better make it good.” The Selurian blinked his eyes, “I understand you are confused, angry, and afraid. I shall try to help you understand, but time is of the essence for you and your friends.” Red sheathed her knife, “Let’s keep this to the point then. Who are you? What are you doing here?” “My name is Hathi, I am a shaman of the faith. I have come to help you and your friends.” Red grunted, “Help us? How?” Hathi tugged at a leather cord around his neck and pulled a pendant from under his robes. It was a crystal exactly similar to the ones in the cavern. “I had learned through my meditations of more of this crystal’s brothers being discovered. I knew I had to help. I knew that no one on this planet would be ready for such a discovery.” Red eyed the crystal, “How did you find out about th

A Recent Commission by Scalerandi

Threads Mender by Alessio Scalerandi   Of those anthro artists who work traditionally, Alessio Scalerandi is one of the most widely recognized.  His understanding of classical artistic principles combined with careful anatomical study and a delightful penchant for whimsy and experimentation have resulted in paintings that are unequivocally "furry" in spirit, but which also transcend the narrow boundaries of the fandom.  As works of art, they can stand on their own anywhere.  Threads Mender is a perfect illustration of the artist's approach.  One one hand, the painting is clearly fantastical in its depiction of an anthropomorphic character working with mystic forces in the midst of an alien landscape.  On the other hand, the same character's sense of poise and the refined quality of his gestures (not to mention his apparent "nudity") immediately recall any number of Old Master drawings or Classical Greek statues.  Yet this painting is neither forbidding in

A Dynamic Time And Place, With Foxes!

The Roaring Twenties Two drawings done 9 months apart of a dreamed of city of the 20s occupied by swingin' foxes and having an ivy league university adjoining the harbor. For fans of the speakeasy. I'd relate full details of the dream but they're hazy so long after.  https://youtu.be/NehZl_X3hjQ I'd post the lyrics, but I don't wanna be that guy.   https://www.deviantart.com/leothefox

Born in Sible Hedingham, Essex, John Hawkwood was the 2cnd son of a prosperous landowner.  He was apprenticed as a tailor in London, but he was soon an archer in the War with France, aka the 100 years war.  He was at Crecy and Poitiers.  He may have been knighted by the Black Prince on the field after Poitiers.    After a brief sojourn back in England, where there was a small matter of horse theft, he joined the mercenary army known as the Great Company.  This broke up and he found himself with the White Company, so called because of their white banners and burnished armor.  He started out in service of the Pope (after besieging, looting and terrorizing Avignon, the papal seat) and ended up working for Florence.  Hawkwood was exceptionally skilled and a very capable commander.  He had to be, the wolves he commanded would have turned on him in a heartbeat had he ever faltered.  He was also brutal and avaricious.  Like all the condotierre, his main method of attack

Red's Tales: The Cavern, Part 3

Hi Guys! Red has found that missing survey team , but unfortunately, they've all kicked the bucket !   It looks like they didn't check out easily , but nobody knows exactly what happened to them!  If that wasn't bad enough , Red and her companions are starting to feel weird .  Better fasten your seat belt -- things are going to get rough ! ******* Red turned to the professor and whispered, “Gas?” The professor checked his scanner and shook his head. Ben had his carbine at the ready again and this time no one raised any objections. After several minutes of standing in a defensive circle, it became clear that whatever had killed the first expedition was no longer around. With that fact, the team began to stand at ease. Ben spoke into the handheld radio. “Surface, we’ve found the scouting team. Over.” No response. “Oh that is just typical! Thrache my life!” The doctor instantly went about the grim task of seeing to the bodies. What he found was even more puzzling. One of th

Disney Furry Princesses

Image
A few years ago I had the idea to draw the Disney princesses as cartoon animals. Some people loved the idea and some thought it was blasphemy to change the characters! Nothing is further from the truth as I love the original characters! Here are a few of them and the animals I picked for them- Snow White as a deer Cinderella as a mouse- Ariel as a mer-fox- Belle as a cat- Pocahontas as a wolf- To see all of them here is the video-

Dan Gordon

I have had a furry drawing, of a strange-o rabbit, on the desk for a week and I can't summon the slightest interest in doing even a small amount of work.  I hate the picture and most everything I have ever done and I wish I could get a do over, life wise.  In the meantime, let's look at Blunder Bunny and his Friends! Alkali Ike, Oatsie, and Oasis Joe.  Dan Gordon. Terrific artwork. This is the standard Blunder Bunny plot.  Before I started trying to draw anthros I had no idea how hard this type of work is.  A lot of talent in the art department.  I guess the writer knew the whole thing was doomed from the start and probably rarely showed up sober, if at all.  Oops!  Maybe I shouldn't have brought that up, reason given below. Blunder was a great idea and very well drawn.  The heyday of the funny animal comics genre was in the forties and fifties.  Nothing like this was around by the time I started reading comics, Superh
