The Sugar Bears!

Hey Guys! 

It’s Andrew the Bee again!  I’m just kickin’ back and groovin’ to the sweet, sweet sounds of the Sugar Bears!  What?  You never heard of them?  Well, let me fill you in!

The Sugar Bears were an anthro bear rock group, led by, you guessed it, Sugar Bear!  Who is Sugar Bear, you ask?  Well, back in the 1960s, when TV, cartoons, and super-sweet breakfast cereal were a part of every kid’s life, Sugar Bear rose to the top of the heap as the coolest, most smooth-talking cereal mascot there ever was!  The other mascots were all gigged-out on their own sugar-packed wares!  But not Sugar Bear – He was mellow!  He could handle all that sugar, no problem! 

Guys like that are always into the scene and so it’s no surprise that Sugar Bear cut his own album!  Cut it right off the back of a cereal box, that is!  This 33 1/3 rpm single was recorded in 1971 and was one of five different songs incorporated into the packaging of Post Super Sugar Crisp.  If you wanted to listen to it, you had to get out your scissors and cut it off the box!  At the same time, though, the Sugar Bears made a real vinyl record entitled Presenting the Sugar Bears.  It’s got that early ‘70s pop-rock sound and is actually pretty good!  I mean, there's Kim Carnes singing as “Honey Bear!”  If you want to check it out, you can find it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mASBpxbjwmg

    Sugar Bear was cool but I never liked Bing, and that is who he talks like. He ain't no Topcat!

      Now that you mention it, didn't Topcat have a band, too? What is it with hip guys and music??

      Hey there guys!

      I remember Sugar Bear the mascot of Sugar Pops cereal. I'd almost forgot about those cut out records!I don't imagine there's too many of them that have survived flimsy as they were. Hard to believe that was over 50 years ago. Dig those groovy 60's outfits! Thanks for that blast from the past. And remember. Tempest Fugit!

The Cockroach Union and Waterbugs Protective Association

      Hi Guys! I'm back with some more anthro bug weirdness courtesy of Peterman's Roach Food!   This stuff was designed to kill cockroaches and other insect vermin way back in the early 1900s !  It came in a bright red tin covered with microscopic pictures that tell a most distressing story !  Seems that the bugs are up in arms because something is killing them off !  They have formed a " protective association " and are marching in protest kind of like Coxey's Army !           But it's no good !  All that marching has worked up the bugs' appetites !  So they check in to chow down on some of that delicious " roach food ."  Too bad it's poison !  One by one, the roaches eat the tainted feast and they croak , right there on the package !     Man, that's tough !  But I guess if you've got cockroaches marching around in your kitchen , this is how you deal with them !   One of the interesting things about this old tin is that the d

Anthro for My Grave!

Hi Guys! It's Andrew the Bee again and I'm here to lay some art and philosophy on you!  See, I was doin' some thinking and it struck me that sooner or later , we're all gonna kiss this world goodbye !  Now that's nothin' to be sad about ; in fact, if you've got the right mindset , it's actually pretty cool !  We're all goin' places and death is as much the beginning as it is the end ! Anyhow, I wanted to make sure that people knew that when they came to weep at my grave !  So I asked a friend of mine, a real artist , to make a bronze plaque to stick on my tombstone ! Of course she didn't exactly know what was on my mind , so I gave her some pictures and a few written instructions ! I started with this : Burney Relief, Isin-Larsa or Old Babylon, c. 1800 b.c., British Museum In case you're wondering , that's an Old Babylonian clay tablet .  The lady with the bird feet and wings is probably Inanna or maybe Ereshkig
