New Work by LANGUEO!
Hi Guys!
I'm really happy to bring you some more fantastic artwork by Langueo! And instead of me going on and on, I'm just going to turn it over to her -- Read, look, and enjoy!
*******
Greetings lords and ladies ! After being wandering among the masked crowds and university work, the self-proclaimed she-knight Langueo is finally able to reach her computer to write some lines and show some art !
Let’s start with some headshots, shall we ? :D
Imperator Rex Graecorum by Langueo (c) |
This one was initially planned as a banner, but was never concretely used. It features some portraits mixing ancient Greek and medieval vibes.
From left to right you have a Greek soldier, a traveller wearing a petasos -sun hat with broad brim- and another soldier with fantasy-esque vibes - long live the feathers !
Scolaris Sedere by Langueo (c) |
Now the traveller horse from the previous pic decided to get on the spotlight and is getting his own piece, this time fully posing and resting on the borders ! He’s playing the aulos, a double-reed flute mainly used during ancient Greek religious rites. Ah, and the petasos, of course. I really like this hat, you know ? Too bad it’s not the current fashion in my country. Anyway.
I called this piece Scolaris Sedere (« The Sitting Student »). Yeah, I’m guessing your thoughts : how original. But wait, there’s actually a context to this title !
In fact, the background text is a rural love poem from one of the Carmina Burana manuscripts. Here’s some made-in-Langueo translation :
At dawn a rural maiden exited home,
Along with her herd, her shepherd’s crook and some recently-made wool.
A quite small flock it is, composed of a sheep and a donkey,
A heifer and a calf, a he-goat and a she-goat.
Suddenly she noticed a student sitting on the lawn and shouted at him :
« What are you doing here, my lord ? Come and play with me ! » (II - 90)
What they did then together is totally up to your imagination ( ͡° ͜Ê– ͡°)
Behold, now a colorful one ! (Probably the first -and last- time you’ll see me working with colors, huh…)
Sol Solis in Stelliferro by Langueo (c) |
This one was supposed to mimic stained glass, since I have never experimented with painting I used color pencils instead. So, about the characters : they are basically allegories, the dog emperor being the Sun and his wife the Moon.
The first one was based on Irish setters, mixed with leonine traits ; the second one is half-cat half-fennec, I’d say the design was partially inspired by Rosina Wachtmeister’s cats paintings.
Aaand this piece was also inspired by a Carmina Burana love poem, though I did not plan enough space to include the lyrics. Here’s an extract though :
The sun raising in the firmament
Of its rays fades away the stars
But there’s still one remaining, my beloved,
That pleases me and all the people.
Therefore you too comrades
Should now enroll in Venus’s army ! (II – 181)
It appears that some verses of the poem were adapted into a song by the German band, Corvus Corax, which also inspired me for this piece. Yes, an interpretation based on another interpretation. Why not.
That’s all, folks ! Take care of yourself and don’t forget to wear your petasos on sunny days.
