Mr. Tawny's Sales Campaign

Captain Marvel Adventures 119, April 1951

Hi Guys!

I've got a new Mr. Tawny story for you courtesy of Captain Marvel Adventures for April, 1951!  By now, you know that Mr. Tawny, aka Tawky Tawny, is an anthropomorphic tiger who has come from the jungles of India to live among civilized folks in the U.S.A.!  He's got perfectly good manners and he speaks flawless English, yet for some reason, he has a hard time fitting in!  Even so, he always gives it his best shot, which brings us to the theme of today's offering!

Mr. Tawny is having some financial issues and he's rightly decided that he needs a second income to help make ends meet!  After opening a come-on in the mail, he sees an opportunity to make some coin as a door-to-door salesman!  It's the kind of job where the sky's the limit and a guy with a winning personality can make a fortune!  Mr. Tawny is, well, sold on the idea.  But as might be expected, things don't work out as planned.  Take a look and you'll see what I mean!

Mr. Tawny has had a rough time, for sure!  But all's well that ends well when the Better Business Bureau sends our hapless hero a thousand-dollar check to reward him for his help in exposing the swindling John Jippo!  That's a pretty good chunk of change, especially in 1951 dollars!  Mr. Tawny's financial woes are over, but you can bet that school's not out yet!  Mr. Tawny, it seems, has plenty of lessons still to learn!  And hey, who doesn't?

OK guys, hope you had as much fun with this as I did!  See you next time!

  1. Tawky is too civilized for his own good. And having Fred MacMurry in a cosplay outfit and bizarre cape following you around could not help sales one bit. Mr. Tawny should hit the wrestling circuit.

    1. I agree -- Mr. Tawny seems unable to see the possibilities where intelligent tigerdom is concerned... and what happened to Captain Marvel? I always thought he was a serious superhero until I started getting into his postwar adventures. He makes Bob Kane's Batman look like Frank Miller's Batman...
