Chipper of the CHP

Hi Guys!

Today I'd like to introduce you to Chipper, or "CHiPper" depending on which name tag he uses!  He's the chipmunk mascot of the California Highway Patrol!  His job is to teach kids about safety, especially when it comes to walking or riding your bike on busy roads!

From what I can tell, Chipper first appeared in the '90s, but he still seems to be going strong!  He shows up at CHP outreach events and if you search for him on the Internet, you'll see him in plenty of photos and videos.  Why, there's even a music video of Chipper and Erik Estrada, the former star of the old cop-drama, "CHiPs," on YouTube!

I'm pretty sure all of that stuff is copyrighted, so I'm not going to get into it here.  Instead, I've got some pictures from a Chipper coloring book that you can get as a free download from the CHP website!

Lets' take a look and see what Chipper is all about!

So here's Chipper and, I guess, some of his pals.  Looks like at least two of them are extreme '90s kids who will be needing some safety lessons!

OK, pretty straightforward I'd say.  Chipper looks like he's ready to do his thing!  But what's up with his tail?  I thought chipmunks had kinda bushy tails, like squirrels.

The first and most important piece of advice for anyone traveling in a car...

I got no problems with this.  That's one mighty big chipmunk, though.

Don't take this the wrong way, Chipper, but I think your reasoning is flawed!  Lots of cars can think these days

Sure, that works.  Chipper's tail is freaking me out, though!

Remember that Chipper can't be everywhere at once.  He's not here, but this is the best piece of advice in the book -- Pay attention, kids!

OK guys, that's all I have for now.  I'll catch you later; in the meantime, be smart and stay safe!

  1. Yeah his tail needs work, but he seems to be a fun mascot. Though McGruff the crimehound is still better
