Hi Guys! Did you ever wonder what goes through a pig's head when he knows that his destiny is to be made into lard ? Well, it turns out that most pigs are up for that , at least according to N. K. Fairbank and Company ! Back in the 1880s and 1890s , Fairbank was one of the biggest producers of lard around! You're probably thinking "lard, who in heck wants that ??" Well, before they invented vegetable oil , you needed lard to cook with ! If you were going to fry anything, you had to have lard, or put in layman's terms, pig fat ! Well, pig fat and killing animals are pretty gross , no doubt! And if anybody hated gross things , it was the Victorians ! So how do you sell the idea of pig fat? You make a joke out of it , that's how! You create a whole advertising campaign out of these anthro pigs whose only desire in life is to die ! So they can be made into grease for cooking! Crusader Rabbit, first aired August 1st, 1950. Crusader is the world's first cartoon series made for television. Alex Anderson, nephew of Paul Terry, came up with the idea. Jay Ward is part of this, huge surprise there. It was filmed on a very low budget and has little animation, mostly still shots and camera pans making up the bulk of the cartoon. Here Crusader is about to demonstrate his lack of superpowers. https://youtu.be/C3hHQvkUhJo Ragland T. Tiger, Crusader's partner and best friend. The 'T' stands for 'the'. When asked about it, Rags would tell people his middle name was Larry but his dad couldn't spell! Rags is none too bright and is the beginning of a long tradition of dopey cartoon sidekicks.
