One Year!

Image
Hybrid, the only site of it's kind on the entire web, is now a year old.  We are living proof that anthropomorphic art and story does not have to be pornographic, salacious, or brain-dead retarded.  Or repetitive. We started of with a huge bang, 800 to 1300 views a day. Valentine's Day, 2020.  In no time we had a cadre of talented enthusiasts join with us. There were setbacks, we shrugged those off and kept going.   We took a huge hit in our numbers, falling to under 10 a day.  We could have slid into obscurity, no one would have blamed us if we gave up. After all, this has been done on the narrowest of budgets. We knew we had the talent and the skill... ...it was a matter of getting the world's notice. We have only posted the best, often with the artist's permission.   We have avoided the pitfalls of complacency and tedium, - - and have intrigued the world!   (I guess 60 odd years ago showing a fox caught in the cruelest of spring traps and a slow-witted cat trying to

Four Leaf Color Salad

This was quicker drawing I did of a cow character who yet has a name. She is first decan Taurus. Here she is searching for four leaf clovers for a salad which will have some sort of magical properties.   https://www.deviantart.com/mamagoat116/art/FourLeafCloverSalad-864647617

Krazy!

Love is where you find it. Fame is fleeting and meaningless... ...yet often unavoidable.   Opportunity sometimes does occur, ...yet luck's a chance but trouble sure. Providence often takes a hand... But mistakes crop up in any plan. Go placidly amidst the noise and haste. Don't dream it - Be it! Ah, love, let us be true To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams, So various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light- Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain; And we are here as on a darkling plain Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, Where ignorant armies clash by night. "Time" is an illusion. All the world’s a stage,                               And all the cats and mice merely players;                              They have their exits and

Is it Anthro? The enigma of Wambi

Image
Wambi gives the jungle sign for "disapproval" to some careless Scouts who started a forest fire   Hi Guys! Some of you might know that I really dig jungle comics !  They're just about the best thing out there and I could go on about them all day !  But here at Hybrid , we do anthropomorphic animals , so I gotta stay on topic !   That being said , I just got my hands on a copy of Wambi Jungle Boy number 6 , from the spring of 1950 .  Wambi had been a backup dancer for Ka'anga Jungle King in Fiction House's flagship title, Jungle Comics, since 1940 .  In 1942 , Wambi got his own book, which ran sporadically for another 17 issues .    Now Wambi is kind of like a cross between Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan and Mowgli , from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book .  With his little red turban , he looks sorta like an Indian , but his adventures seem to take place in Africa .  True, there's this tiger, Sirdah , who keeps poking his nose into things , but for

Thark And Bunny

Image
I struck the ground with drawn long-sword ready to defend myself as I could.  I fell beside a huge monster who was engaged with three antagonists, and as I glanced at his fierce face, filled with the light of battle, I recognized Tars Tarkas the Thark. He did not see me, as I was a trifle behind him, and just then the three warriors opposing him, and whom I recognized as Warhoons, charged simultaneously. The mighty fellow made quick work of one of them, but in stepping back for another thrust he fell over a dead body behind him and was down and at the mercy of his foes in an instant. Quick as lightning they were upon him, and Tars Tarkas would have been gathered to his fathers in short order had I not sprung before his prostrate form and engaged his adversaries. I had accounted for one of them when the mighty Thark regained his feet and quickly settled the other.  He gave me one look, and a slight smile touched his grim lip as, touching my shoulder, he said, "I would sc

Blunderbunny And Some Friends

Image
Funny Films, September - October 1949, American Comics Group Blunderbunny.  A dedicated but clueless inventor, this marvelous story is from Dan Gordon, king of funny animals comics.  An animator, he worked with a lot of different people and studios, eventually going to work for Hanna and Barbera, who he knew from working at the MGM cartoon division, which gave us Tom and Jerry.  When MGM closed down the animation section, Gordon jumped on board Hanna/Barbera and came up with the idea for and designed The Flintstones. Funny Films # 2, November - December 1949.  In addition to the hapless Blunder, Gordon also gave us Puss 'N Boots, about a sadistic cat torturing a harmless dog.  This has been described as 'Tom and Jerry on crack' and is as violent as any cartoon that is not outright blood porn.   Gordon also came up with the delusional Superkatt, who wears diapers and a bonnet.  This guy was ahead of his time, Inkbunny would love to have him on board!  Giggle Comics # 39, Mar
