Sweet Tooth-a "Furry" Series?

Image
I usually focus on furry/anthro art but recently I watched "Sweet Tooth",a fantasy/sci-fi series on Netflix. It starts out with a world-wide pandemic virus (sound familiar?) making people very sick. During this time, most children born from human parents are hybrid creatures that are part animal. No one has discovered why this is happening yet but believe it is connected to the virus (or vice-versa). But look at this cute puppy-baby! Who wouldn't want one? The main character in the series is Gus,a deer-boy whose father hid from the world in a secluded forest near Yellowstone since he was a baby. He is nick-named Sweet Tooth for his love of syrup/candy. The outside world is not kind to these children as they are looked on as freaks or are thought perhaps to spread the virus. I won't tell much more about the series as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. Gus does set out on his own to look for his mother so there is much danger along the way fo

Pete Hawley

Movie poster for Rhubarb,The Millionaire Tomcat.  Rhubarb was played by Orangey, the most famous and the meanest actor cat of them all. https://catsinfilm.tumblr.com/post/180429408180/orangey-the-cat-was-a-tabby-cat-that-was-known-for   Rhubarb was written by H. Allen Smith.  Dell Books. One more.  Pete Hawley was in huge demand, known for his Jantzen Swimwear ads.But he has a lot of anthro animals in his quiver as well. When I was growing up I would see this guy's work everywhere. I was dressed much like this cat the day Kennedy was shot just a few miles away. Spooky. American Greeting Cards. American Greeting Cards. Just as seventies as it gets! Doggone it is Southern Baptist for 'Goddamn'.  This is a doggone good picture. He doth bestride the narrow world, like a Colossus.    This bangs the right side of the cute meter. Diverse. Prolific, to say the least. While the thrust of our anthropomorphism here is furry oriented, Humpty Dumpty is nothing if not 'like a man&

Solo

Image
The opening story from Solo, by the incredible Oscar Martin. Food is scarce and respect for life non-existent. Enemies abound. The rats are the smallest and the most hard pressed to survive in this world. Mind blowing artwork. Did I mention that this is good art? The quality of mercy is not strained in this world, it is unknown. Captured and put in the arena, Solo astonishes all with his speed and ruthlessness. It is speed, not size, that matters in an edged weapons fight.    But all is not hopeless. There may still be a chance for this fearless warrior. We shall see. Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew

Image
Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew, September 1982 Hi Guys! Some of you comic buffs out there might know that DC was the first big comic-book publisher to get in on the ground floor of the " funny animal " craze way back in the 1940s !  Judging by all of the different funny-animal titles they put out through the mid-1950s , DC must have done really well with this genre.  Remember those Rudolph comics?  Those went on into the 1960s and even into the '70s and '80s !  Of course, Rudolph was trading heavily on Christmas -- it wasn't like kids were naturally drawn to anthro or anything.  Still, DC would occasionally try to relive its funny-animal glory days with offbeat anthro titles like Angel and the Ape ... and Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew ! Captain Carrot and his Crew first appeared as an insert story in The New Teen Titans for February 1982 .  This sixteen-pager paved the way for the Crew's own book just a month later !  The fir

Sam & Max

Image
Sam and Max are Freelance Police.   Theater of the absurd. The best description of these two is 'enthusiastic'. Sam & Max are by Steve Purcell, from an idea by his brother Dave. I gotta read more of this. Now this is humor. Superior.  Oh, and it sure looks to me like Mr. Purcell is a Jack Davis fan.    This should be a lot better known. I just love the classics.
