Le Cochon Danseur

Image
The Dancing Pig.  Pathé, 1907. https://youtu.be/BU4W858uiGY  The Dancing Pig was a French vaudeville act at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1907 Pathé released a 4-minute film based on this act.  The man dancing in the Pathé film was Mr. Odeo, who had a dancing routine Le Cochon Mondain. From 1906 until the early thirties, he toured the music-halls with this burlesque act.  No one knows his real name.  La Blockette, the title of the sheet music and the name of the piggish polka dance, was also the artistic name of actress and singer Fanny Bloch (1863-1956). This is a bit confusing, as it is perhaps her older sister, comic singer Jeanne Bloch (1858-1916) who by her hefty looks inspired the name of the flabby polka.  Jeanne Bloch http://www.dutempsdescerisesauxfeuillesmortes.net/fiches_bio/bloch_jeanne/bloch_jeanne.htm  : Manasse dansar , the Swedish version of Cincinnati Dancing Pig, a hit for country singer Red Foley. https://youtu.be/EaPS0CM38pY    Ain't no ham like

Yo Soy El Zorro. ¡Prepárate Para Morir!

Image
The foppish, effete Don Diego de la Vega is in actuality the noble and bold swordsman known to the world as Zorro, the Fox, champion of the oppressed Indio and defender of freedom.  Here he puts an end to the cruel and nefarious Captain Ramon, enemy of justice and a friend to Satan.  'The concept that you can possess land is as unfathomable to them as that of dividing up the sea.  En garde, Villain'! Los conejos son jodidamente peligrosos.

Up Around The Bend (Come On The Rising Wind)

The next painting in my series on transportation -the title is from a 1970 Creedence Clearwater Revival song of the same name. While not exactly about a motorcycle, I thought it fit the spirit of the times here (late 1960's early 1970's). From sketch~ To finished painting~ To video!

The Editors Go To Africa!

Andy has stirred up two mighty hunters along with their pack of killer chipmunks.  Kraven the Hunter is one of Spiderman's most dangerous and ridiculous foes.  B'wana Beast, in helmet thing, can combine two animals into one for maximum performance.  The helmet allows him to do that, a talking purple gorilla on top of Mount Kilimanjaro gave it to him after B'wana whupped his butt in a fight. Synthesis! Kraven is the world's mightiest hunter with just the latest in the way of fashion taste.  Steve Ditko, artist.  I don't care who drew B'wana. Andrew the Bee, when not sweeping up in the Hybrid editorial offices, is fond of adventures of imagination.  He is irrepressible and alive with curiosity, as can be seen in the introduction picture.    His fellow editor and enabler Billy D. is a rustic from the provinces, and always up for out of door fun.  He is considered slow-witted even for a rabbit.  Billy is scared of his own shadow so he let's Andy take the lead i

Dizzie Rascal

Image
Our fellow Hybrid member, Chaosfive-55, lost his beloved cat Dizzie Rascal last week.  I have been following his posts on her and feel I knew her because of his hundreds of photos of this charming feline.   Intellectual. Adventurous. The French term is 'pas de deux'. Mystical.   Dizzie is a Mystery Cat: she’s called the Hidden Paw-   For she’s the master criminal who can defy the Law. She’s the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad’s despair:   For when they reach the scene of crime— Dizzie is not there!    You - Shall - Not - Pass!     Refined.    Inquisitive.    Fierce.    Adored.    The last picture. With St. Francis of the Catnip Patch " The saint stands over the resting place...the phrase "Let It Grow" was an artistic motif of my late brother, Kirk, who incorporated it in several of his paintings".     Excelsior!       https://www.deviantart.com/chaosfive-55/art/Dizzie-s-Story-636320975   I decree Dizzie anthropomorphic, she is welcome on t
