Kamaitachi

Image
Japanese whirlwind demon.  I could not find the name of the artist but I am guessing that the red kanji is a signature.  These invisible demons employ their sickle claws to do their thing.  Pretty malevolent, if you ask me.   If anybody has invisible flying bloodthirsty slasher weasels it would be the Japanese.  This vicious fellow is by Xatchett off DeviantArt.   https://www.deviantart.com/xatchett   These yokai ride dustdevils and whirlwinds and slash up the unwary, while drawing no blood.  In the 1890's there was a rash of these attacks. Some anime.   https://youtu.be/sxC-g5sCWXk The whirlwind thing seems to be a big part of all this. Kamaitachi, by Eikoh Hosea, 1969. And another.   This is the photographer who took the dynamic black and white pictures of Yukio Mishima I had posted in an earlier essay.   The model in th...

Real English Wine - A Scarfolk Advertisement

Image
The government strongly promoted the ‘Buy British’ message in the 1970s. It was so keen to prove the scientific superiority of British products that large-scale experiments were commissioned. Scarfolk University, for example, was given four million pounds to develop a computer that could record the brainwaves of hundreds of Real English Wine drinkers and then convert those brainwaves into sounds and images. Scientists (and advertising agency executives who planned to exploit the results) predicted the result would produce “a wide variety of positive images, including majestic British landscapes accompanied by the sounds of waves and music as beautiful as anything written by maestros such Sir Edward Elgar or Cliff Richard”. In actual fact, all the subjects’ brains produced exactly the same image: An electrified cage containing a baby monkey whose mind had been destroyed by medical experiments, systematic torture and the jarring sound of a toy mechanical bear merciless...

Cats Don't Dance

Image
Cats Don't dance is a 1997 Warner Brothers film that is sadly underrated. Yes it is a musical but for this film set in the late 1930's  it seems to work. Danny is a young cat from the country that sets off for Hollywood with big dreams. When he arrives there he finds out that all that glitters is not gold! He meets a lovely lady cat named Sawyer who works as a secretary for a talent agent. She lets Danny know quickly that animals only play bit parts in movies and do not try to outshine their human stars. Danny finds this out the hard way when he tries to steal the spotlight from Darla Dimple. By the way, Darla (a evil version of child star Shirley Temple) is one of the funniest villains in the movies. A major spoiled brat who has a temper tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants! Here is her parody of "The Good Ship Lollipop" I don't want to give away too much if you haven't  seen the movie. The characters are done in a classic style that reminds one of...

Freaks

Paulie Panda and Billy have not seen each other in years. They have got grudging official permission for a reunion.  Lots of water under the bridge with many companions long gone.  Today is a day for seeing the sights and enjoying each other's company.  A lunch of blueberry sandwiches washed down with FuzzyBubbles* was as welcome as could be. When these two were young and immortal, they relished the darkness.  Now as Billy stares towards the west he feels anxiety at the coming of night.  He does not know why.  Paulie is better adjusted and knows his friend is prone to introspection and depression.  But this extremely tough ursid has his moments of terror, along with intrusive memories that are always there.  Once the little rabbit tried to prove himself over and over to the ENfantry of their old unit*, even after it became flagrantly unnecessary.  Since this translated into great professionalism such an attitude worked for ...

Billy And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good Dream

Image
Most people have a good conscience and a bad conscience.  Billy Bunny has a bad conscience and a frightful conscience that is always telling him that he is a waste of vital resources and his presence on Earth is redundant and unwanted.  This morning he awakens from a dream of confrontation with them both.  The worst part about it all is that neither conscience will speak to him directly but only to each other, just like Billy is not even there.   https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/   Andrew the Bee and Noble Stag courtesy of that Astonishing Anthro Artist of Absolutely Absorbing Ability, Andibi! https://www.deviantart.com/andibi
