Kellogg's Funny Jungleland

Image
Hi Guys! If you're like me , you've probably wondered where all of those cereal mascots come from!  Well, the answer is simple :  they come from the jungle!   We know that because Kellogg's proved it, way back in 1907 .  That was the year after W.K. Kellogg founded the " Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company ," which would go on to become one of the first and greatest makers of breakfast cereal !     See, Kellogg needed something to advertise his corn flakes and he needed that something to appeal to the kids !  I don't know if they had market researchers back then, but Kellogg was smart to realize that kids loved anthropomorphic animals !  I mean, there was Goldilocks and the Three Bears , Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf , Puss in Boots , and a ton of other characters that kids knew from their story books !   So Kellogg came up with his own book .  And it wasn't just something to look at ; it was ...

Public And Private Life Of Animals

Image
Scenes from the Private and Public Life of the Animals, by P. J. Stahl and illustrated by J. J. Grandville, 1842.  This is a collection of anthro animal works from some of the best writers in France at the time, which means cutting edge literaria. And now for these pictures! A poplar dueling spot, the Bois de Boulogne was right outside of Paris.  The rabbit is not at home with murder weapons but the cock is. This ra...

Lentacular!

Image
Hi Guys!    So Me and Billy put our heads together to bring you some really cool stuff !  Actually it's mostly Billy's show , but I'm gonna give you my two cents' worth anyhow!   Ever seen these weird postcards before?  What really grabs me is the 3-D effect !  I mean , check it out ; you can almost feel the fuzz , even on that pig !     I guess these are what they call lenticular images , meaning that what you've really got here are cards made up of two or more pictures that have been harmonized with a special lens and then interlaced on a two-dimensional substrate to create a stereoscopic illusion !     Man, that's a lot of ten-dollar words , huh?  Well, don't worry about it !  Just enjoy the weirdness ahead !   I see that Andy is pushing lenticular postcards on our sophisticated, discerning readers because he dreamed about them or something.  Hummph.  I shall...

The Cats' Party

Image
Hi Guys! Here's some more feline anthro for you, courtesy of Dame Dingle , whoever that is!   The Cats' Party is a kid book that was published in 1869 , so you can be sure it's full of Victorian nightmare fuel !  There's perfidy and mayhem galore, right up to the shocking twist ending !  But hey, these are still some pretty cool cat pictures.  Enjoy!           *******

Garth Williams

This is as fine a drawing as I have ever seen.  After reading about Alabama and Mr. William's book on the black and white rabbits, I started looking at more of his work, although I grew up on Charlotte's Web and The Cricket In Times Square.  His use of color and shading in this makes me want to burn my art supplies.  Perhaps I will throw my guitars in with them! https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-rabbits-wedding.html?view=mosaic   The 3 little kittens, lost their mittens, and they began to cry Oh, momma dear, see here see here Oh, I want to hug these kitties! Garth Montgomery Williams. 1922-1996. https://misterscribbles.blogspot.com/ All's well that ends well.

Two Different Dragons

Image
I'm not sure if these dragons are considered "anthro" or "furry"(although they both have a little fur)-but they are both intelligent creatures!  Haku from Spirited Away- He is an eastern dragon with a wolf-like head and white fur/scales and green mane. He can transform into a human boy when he chooses-plus he is also a river spirit/guardian. He never speaks in his dragon form but he is a very intelligent creature. If you have not seen this classic Studio Ghibli movie, please do so! Falkor the luck dragon is from the 1984 movie The Neverending Story. In the original book illustrations, he had the look of a Eastern dragon with a lion's head. In the movie,he had the long body of an Eastern dragon but with a dog-like face. Either way,he is a positive creature who encourages the hero Atreyeu throughout the film. " Believe and good luck will find you"

Teen-age Animal Funnies

Image
Billy D Bunny has already written a great tribute to anthro cartoonist and animator Dan Gordon. I remembered seeing some comics he did that were a "funny animal" version of the popular Archie comics in the 1940's. Guess what? I found some of the covers -with names like Tommy Cat, Heppity Hare, and Kitty Katt, how could these teens go wrong? A clearer image of this cover I forgot to mention their dog friend is a "square". He might have been the anthro version of Archie's Jughead!
